Aval Payasam /Atukula Payasam

WISH YOU ALL HAPPY JANMASHTAMI !

Janmashtami festival is dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna to commemorate his birth ceremony. On the occasion of Janmashtami , the devotees of Krishna prepare scrumptious sweet dishes from milk and curds that Krishna loved. I prepared Aval Payasam as Neivediyam (offering) for Lord Krishna ~ Makhan Chor.It is extremely easy to prepare and hardly take any time to be ready to serve. And best of all, it used ingredients that can be found at any given time in most Indian pantries - aval or poha (beaten rice), cardamom, milk, cashew nuts, ghee and raisins. Since aval is so easily cooked, there was no need for pressure-cooking or soaking anything.

Ingredients:-

1 cup beaten rice /Poha/Atukulla
2 1/2 cups Whole milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp crushed cardamom
1 tbsp cashewnuts
1 tbsp raisins
3 Pistachios thinly sliced
3 Almonds thinly sliced
2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)

Method:-

Heat ghee in a pan. Roast cashew and raisin. Drain them and keep it aside. In the remaining ghee, roast aval till golden brown.
Heat the milk on medium and while it is warm enough, add the beaten rice and crushed cardamom. Let it cook for 10 -15 minutes till it thickens.
Keep stirring often so that it doesnot form skin on top..
Now add sugar and cardamom. Stir well to dissolve.
Add raisins and cashews. Simmer for 2 more minutes.
Garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios.
Yummy and Delicious Aval Payasam is ready.
Serve warm or cold.
